One Year Clean and Sober and Counting

Having lost my family due to alcohol, then spending four months in jail for drunk driving, getting out I realized I was going to be living on the street with nothing but a bag on my back. I was fortunate my first night out to find someone who recommended the Ray of Hope. And through there I was able to access the Sundown night Shelter.

The last thing I wanted to do was sleep outside.  These are sweat equity programs, that ask very little of us, but they do ask something, they asked that we clean up after ourselves, that we help our fellow man, that we try to find one more thing beyond our self to do. So I started volunteering down at the food bank. And eventually got a volunteer job down at the Ray of Hope. And then I was hired at the Ray of Hope.

I’ve been clean and sober for three years, and  here one year! Someday I hope to be reunited with my family. I miss my kids a lot. I’m thankful for the phone calls that they take. But none of that would’ve happened if I would’ve been left out on the street where I believe I would’ve been lost, and buried in the system.
