Client Services / Shelter Manager

The Auburn Food Bank is seeking a qualified Client Services / Shelter Manager to oversee operations serving food bank clients, an emergency shelter, and a day resource center for individuals experiencing homelessness in South King County. This leadership role is central to ensuring compassionate, organized, and effective services for clients while supporting staff and maintaining daily operations.

Position Summary

The Client Services / Shelter Manager is responsible for leading client-facing services across the food bank, emergency shelter, and day center. This position oversees daily operations, staff supervision, facility coordination, crisis response, and community collaboration while helping create a safe, structured, and welcoming environment for clients, staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of client services at the food bank, emergency shelter, and day resource center.

  • Supervise, support, and coach staff to ensure effective, respectful, and mission-driven service delivery.

  • Maintain a safe, structured, and welcoming environment for clients, staff, volunteers, and visitors.

  • Respond to crises, incidents, and urgent situations with professionalism, sound judgment, and care.

  • Monitor facility needs and coordinate operational oversight to support smooth daily functioning.

  • Assist with budgeting, reporting, and resource management in partnership with organizational leadership.

  • Collaborate with community partners, service providers, and local stakeholders to strengthen support for clients.

  • Help develop and maintain policies, procedures, and practices that promote safety, accountability, and dignity.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in shelter operations, human services, program management, and staff supervision.

  • Technical expertise with internet-based programs, Microsoft Office programs, and mobile devices (i.e., tablet, mobile computers, smart phones, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to crises and work calmly in high-pressure environments.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to build positive working relationships with clients, colleagues, volunteers, and community partners.

  • Commitment to serving individuals experiencing hardship and homelessness with respect, empathy, and professionalism.

  • Experience maintaining structured programs, operational systems, and facility standards.

Preferred Attributes

  • Knowledge of homelessness services, resource navigation, and community-based support systems. King County and South King County experience desired. 

  • Experience working in nonprofit or mission-driven environments.

  • Ability to balance compassion with consistency, accountability, and sound decision-making.

  • Commitment to collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Hours of Operation

  • Typical work hours are 8:30 am – 2:00 pm 

  • Mix of evening and weekend hours, flexible as needs arise. 

Compensation 

  • Negotiable depending on qualifications and experience
